Cosmic Girls: The Minds Behind The Mission

I’ve partnered with Cosmic Girls, an international nonprofit dedicated to empowering women in space and STEM, to launch an original video series spotlighting the trailblazing women shaping the future of the space industry. Set against the backdrop of Florida’s revitalized Space Coast, this series offers an intimate, interview-style vlog format that brings you candid conversations with engineers, mission leads, communicators, and innovators at the heart of the commercial space renaissance. From launchpads to leadership roles, we’re uncovering the untold stories of the women redefining what’s possible—right where America’s space legacy is being reimagined.

EPISODE 1

How does a lifelong love of sewing lead to a job at NASA? Meet Jean Wright, one of the final seamstresses hired for the Space Shuttle Program, part of the elite “Sew Sisters” team that helped protect astronauts aboard Endeavour, Atlantis, and Discovery.

In this episode of Cosmic Girls: The Minds Behind the Mission, reporter Krystel Knowles brings you Jean's inspiring late-in-life career shift, proving that it's never too late to reach for the stars. Discover how childhood skills, determination, and passion helped Jean hand-stitch her way into space history and NASA. -Jean’s story is now captured in a 2023 children’s book written by Elise Matich.
